The movie "Freedom Writers"discusses, in a touching and instigating way, the challenge of education in a social context problematic and violent. This movie begins with a young teacher, Erin (played by Hilary Swank), who enterS as freshman IN A School" to teach English Language and Literature for a group of teenagers considered to be "turbulent" and involved with gangs.
To understand the major problems faced by such students, the teacher Erin starts to adopt new teaching methods, even without the concurrence of the director of the college. For this, the teacher gives the students a notebook for them to write , daily, aspects of their lives, from family problems to internal conflicts. Moreover, she said that the reading of different works on crucial episodes of humanity, such as the famous book "The Diary of Anne Frank" with the goal to make the students realize the need for mutual tolerance, without which many cruelty occurred and can inflict.
Over time, students are engaged in their writings in newspapers and by exchanging experiences of life, now more tolerant, overcoming obstacles in their own routines.
So they gathered their diaries in a book that was published in the United States in 1999 after a series of difficulties. It is clear that innovative projects like this, in the case of schools with few resources, facing several obstacles, from bureaucracy to the resistance to new educational paradigms.
In countries like Brazil, where the difficulties are immense, but overcome, if the commitment and effort. In this sense, the film "Freedom Writers" should be seen as present, especially for its emphasis on the role of education as a mechanism for individual and community transformation. With these considerations, it is that education and educators have emphasized the large strain of Paulo Freire, has an indispensable role in implementation of new social realities, from the consciousness of every human being as architect of possible progress in their lives.
